Drupal 7 Re-Enters Beta?

November 15, 2010 by Darnell Clayton

After months of beta testing, the team (plus an army of volunteers) have finally been able to reduce the number of critical bugs for Drupal 7 to zero which usually means that a CMS/blog platform is ready for prime time (after the release candidate anyways).

Instead of phasing the platform out of beta however, the team has decided to send Drupal for another round of testing.

As of today, Drupal 7’s critical issue queue has reached 0. A huge thanks to the tremendous effort of hundreds of people who have helped bring us to this momentous milestone!

By traditional definition, we should be entering release candidate phase. However, while we have been focused on smashing criticals, we have accumulated a “major” issue queue that’s currently 5 pages long, and have been neglecting to prepare for string freeze, which happens at RC1. (Official Drupal Blog) [Read more…]

Drupal For iPhone Is No Longer A Myth (Drupad)

June 30, 2010 by Darnell Clayton

After waiting many, many months for a Drupal iPhone app to appear upon Steve Jobs app store, it looks like a developer has finally created an elegant Drupal app for fans of the CMS service.

Entitled Drupad, this iPhone app gives Drupal lovers the power to manage their site on the go and is even iOS 4 compatible (unlike many blog apps on the app store unfortunately).

Priced at $4.99 USD, Drupad may seem to be a bit pricey when compared to other CMS/blogging apps (with the exception being Joomla Admin Mobile which is twice as expensive!).

For those of you wondering whether this app is worth the price of a hamburger or sub sandwich, here is an in depth overview of Drupad for those addicted to all things Drupal (and that mysterious blue face that haunts me at night). [Read more…]

Drupal’s OnSugar Embraces Change and Adds Social Widgets

June 21, 2010 by Darnell Clayton

It looks like lovers of Drupal will have yet another reason to avoid switching to Blogger or WordPress.

OnSugar (which is owned by the Sugar, Inc. network) has finally embraced both Twitter and the Facebook like button, the latter which was integrated by both Typepad and WordPress two months ago in April.

If you’ve been following our Twitter or Facebook accounts, you’ll know that we’ve been working on an easy way to add sharing widgets to your site.

After a few weeks of rigorous testing, you’ll be thrilled to hear that they’re now available! If you’re using a featured OnSugar theme, the sharing widgets will be automatically turned on. (Official OnSugar Blog) [Read more…]

When Will Drupal 7.0 Appear?

May 24, 2010 by Darnell Clayton

Drupal, a popular CMS used by many blog platforms (most notably the White House) is on the verge of releasing version 7.0 to the masses.

While the latest version promises improvements with security, javascript (speed?) and numerous bug fixes, what Drupal doesn’t promise is when 7.0 will be ready for the public to test out.

The release version of Drupal 7.0 will be ready after (a) there are no more critical bugs and (b) we’ve had at least one release candidate (RC) without adding any more issues to the list.

When will that be? Well, it depends entirely on how many people chip in and help out! The more people help, the faster we can find and fix bugs, and the faster 7.0 gets released. The faster 7.0 gets released, the faster we can start adding new features to Drupal 8.0. So help out where you can, and let’s make this the best and most solid release of Drupal yet! How Did WordPress Defeat Joomla And Drupal As The Best Open Source CMS?

November 21, 2009 by Darnell Clayton

Whenever I think of open sourced CMS (Content Management System), I often think of Drupal and Joomla which are used by web masters to make powerful websites without breaking the bank.

So you can imagine my surprise when WordPress–software created primarily for blogging–defeated Joomla and Drupal as the Overall Best Open Source CMS for 2009.

Update: Corrections made to article. See below for details.
