7 types of people who never deserve a second chance (no matter what)

Everyone deserves a second chance, or so they say. But there are certain types of individuals that, no matter the circumstances, don’t warrant a redo.

Identifying these people is crucial to maintaining positive relationships and safeguarding your own peace of mind.

With this piece, I’ll break down the seven types of people who, in my experience, never deserve a second chance.

Let’s get started.

1) Chronic liars

In the realm of personal relationships, few things can be as damaging as chronic dishonesty.

We all tell little white lies from time to time, but there’s a line that, once crossed, is difficult to return from. I’m talking about the chronic liars.

Chronic liars have a knack for twisting the truth, bending reality to suit their narrative, regardless of the hurt it may cause.

In my experience, once you catch someone in a web of deceit, it’s challenging to ever fully trust them again. They’ve showcased their ability to distort the truth with ease, and that’s not a trait that usually disappears overnight.

Despite the old adage of ‘everyone deserves a second chance,’ chronic liars may be an exception. Remember, honesty forms the bedrock of any healthy relationship. Once that’s compromised, it’s tough to rebuild.

2) Fair-weather friends

We’ve all had those friends who are around for the good times, but disappear when things get tough. I call them fair-weather friends.

I remember a friend of mine, let’s call him Jack. Jack and I used to have a blast together. Parties, road trips, you name it. But when I hit a rough patch in life and needed a shoulder to lean on, Jack was nowhere to be found.

Turns out, Jack was there for the fun and not for the friendship. And that’s not the kind of person who deserves a second chance.

Friends are supposed to be there for each other through thick and thin. If someone only shows up when the sun is shining, it may be time to reconsider their place in your life.

3) Emotional manipulators

Emotional manipulation is a dark art, practiced by those who seek control and power over others. These individuals aren’t interested in a balanced relationship; they thrive on making you feel inferior, guilty, or inadequate to maintain their upper hand.

Emotional manipulators often lack empathy. They fail to understand the emotional harm they inflict on others because they can’t fully grasp the depths of human emotion.

Giving a second chance to an emotional manipulator is like playing with fire. More often than not, it results in getting burned. So it’s better to maintain distance and protect your mental peace.

4) Unapologetic wrongdoers

Mistakes are a part of life. We all mess up sometimes, and that’s okay. What’s not okay is when someone consistently wrongs you without any hint of remorse or attempts to make amends.

These unapologetic wrongdoers have no qualms about causing harm and feel no need to rectify their actions. They believe they are above apologies and are quick to repeat their mistakes, often at the expense of others.

Giving a second chance to an unapologetic wrongdoer is akin to giving them permission to hurt you again. It’s a toxic cycle best avoided for the sake of one’s emotional well-being.

5) Betrayers

Betrayal cuts deep. It shatters trust and leaves you questioning everything. When someone close to you betrays your trust, it feels like a punch to the gut.

A few years back, I experienced this firsthand. A close friend, someone I trusted implicitly, betrayed me. They shared a personal secret of mine with others, causing me immense mental distress.

While forgiveness is essential for personal healing, extending a second chance isn’t always the best course of action. Especially when it comes to betrayers, because trust, once broken, is incredibly hard to rebuild.

6) Habitual takers

Life is all about give and take, but some people are all take and no give. These habitual takers drain you emotionally, physically, and sometimes even financially.

They have a knack for making you feel obligated to fulfill their needs, often at the expense of your own. They expect you to be there for them constantly, but are seldom available when you need them.

A relationship with a habitual taker quickly becomes one-sided and unhealthy. And in my opinion, these individuals rarely deserve a second chance. A balanced relationship involves mutual giving and taking, anything less is simply not worth it.

7) Abusers

The most critical type of person who never deserves a second chance is an abuser. Be it physical, emotional, or mental abuse, these individuals inflict harm that often leaves lasting scars.

Abusers thrive on power and control, exerting their dominance at the expense of their victim’s wellbeing. They manipulate, belittle, and instill fear to maintain their hold.

No matter the apologies or promises of change, an abuser should never be given a second chance. It’s vital to prioritize your safety and emotional health above all else. Remember, you deserve respect, kindness, and love – never settle for less.

Final thoughts: It’s about self-respect

The essence of knowing when to withhold a second chance isn’t about judging others; it’s about prioritizing your own wellbeing and self-respect.

There’s an old saying, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” This adage holds true in the context of our discussion. It underscores the importance of learning from past experiences and not allowing ourselves to be hurt repeatedly by the same person.

The types of people we’ve discussed in this article – chronic liars, fair-weather friends, emotional manipulators, unapologetic wrongdoers, betrayers, habitual takers, and abusers – they all have one thing in common: they undermine our self-worth and peace of mind.

Remember, it’s okay to walk away from people who harm you emotionally or physically. Prioritize your mental health and self-respect above all else. You are deserving of relationships that bring joy, trust, respect and mutual support. Don’t settle for anything less.

In the end, the decision to give a second chance is entirely yours. But always remember, you have the right to protect yourself from toxicity and hurt. After all, your first and foremost commitment should be towards your own wellbeing.
