YouTube Now Receiving More Than 2 Billion Views Per Day

YouTube Five Year Channel

It hasn’t even been a month since YouTube celebrated their 5th birthday anniversary and now the world’s most popular video sharing service has announced another huge milestone. According to YouTube officials, the site is now exceeding 2 billion video views per day.

In celebration of the companies milestones, Google (owner of YouTube) has announced a new initiative known as the YouTube 5 Year Channel. The channel, created by the YouTube team, asks users to submit videos about how YouTube has impacted their lives, the best submissions will then be chosen and curated by documentary filmmaker Stephen Higgins.

The 5 Year channel also includes an interactive timeline of the sites social media achievements and it features celebrity interviews regarding YouTube’s amazing rise.

According to Mashable, YouTube now receives over 24 hours of video uploads every single minute, which explains why more than 1/3 of the world’s population is now watching videos through the service.

Personally, these numbers don’t really come as a surprise to me with the advent of better video capturing Smartphones, cheap HD camcorders and other personal devices that offer camera capabilities.

As HTML5 allows videos to become more interactive and work on a wider range of devices, the number of videos viewed daily on YouTube are sure to climb.
