In spite of some laugahable statements to the contrary, China does a pretty good job in censoring traffic into itself. One china watcher wonders now that Google has purchased YouTube, what sort of implications this will have — particularly because Google China has been quite complicit with China’s efforts in censorship. YouTube as it stands now apparently is NOT blocked, but I wonder what Google will do when the Chinese government does start rattling its sabres… it probably makes no sense in allowing the entire site to be blocked. But to selectively censor certain videos on keywords or tags? or filter based on IP addresses? It doesn’t seem hard to do — but its certainly one more thing on Google’s plate as it grapples with YouTube.
