Asia and Australia Now offering Facebook Credits Through Retail Locations

Facebook Credit Purchase PayPalMOL, the online micropayment company that also owns Friendster has announced that they are making Facebook Credits available through various outlet locations throughout Asia and Australia.

Facebook Credits can be purchased using MOLPoints, a form of virtual currency which can be purchased in the following countries: Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, India, Australia and New Zealand. At some locations users will also be able to purchase Facebook Credits without needing to first buy MOLPoints.

Adding to the hype of the new program is the fact that co-branded cards can be purchased and given to other users as gifts.

Prepaid cards are used as a main form of internet purchases in several of the areas in which this program has been rolled out and a Facebook rep told Mashable that the new program will allow them to obtain more “invested users” in Asia, while doing a good job of promoting the social network.

In a press release Vaughan Smith, Facebook’s director of business and corporate development said of the program:

โ€œWeโ€™re investing in the long-term future of Facebook Credits, and we view this agreement as a major opportunity to broaden the availability of a simple, unified currency that can be used in games and applications across Facebook.โ€

I’m not quite sure where I stand on the idea of Facebook invading retail locations. On the one hand it’s a great option for extending the companies brand and perhaps finding customers who don’t trust traditional online payment systems (credit card, paypal and mobile payments, etc.). On the other hand, trying to contact Facebook support when things go wrong (cards aren’t loaded, cards don’t work) probably won’t be the easiest process as you would know if you’ve ever dealt with Facebook attempts at customer service.

What do you think, would you buy Facebook Credits from retail locations if you had the option?
