New Hampshire Police are being inundated with complaints from the parents of teen bloggers over threats made on blogs, according to a report in the Union Leader.
Hollis, New Hampshire Police Sergent Richard Mello is reported as stating that the problems arising from blogging center on fights in which one teen will write threats against another, with flame wars including statements such as “I’m going to kill you”.
“We have that all the time,” Mello told the Union Leader. “Every police department is dealing with it. We get calls from parents all the time saying, ‘Little Suzie is in this massive fight with little Sally. The kids start posting all this personal information into the public domain that’s inflammatory and threats.”
Despite the recent upsurge in anti-blogging activity, Mello responds rationally when asked whether blogging is dangerous: “I really don’t know,” Mello said. “Maybe there isn’t any harm to it. Certainly, threats and disagreements can happen anywhere in life.”
