In late 2012 Netflix announced plans to bring Facebook sharing to its platform in early 2013. On Wednesday morning Cameron Johnson, director of product innovation at Netflix, announced the new sharing service.
On the Netflix blog Johnson writes:
“Starting today, Netflix members in the U.S. can share their favorite shows and movies on Netflix with friends by connecting to Facebook and agreeing to share.”
Using Netflix Social is simple, just connect your Facebook accounts and you’ll fine two new social rows of titles added to your Netflix homepage. The rows included Friends’ Favorites and Watched By Your Friends lists.
Default sharing happens only on Netflix with users needed to choose if they share viewed TV shows and movies on Facebook.
Sharing on Facebook requires users to enable the ‘Share my activity on Facebook’ via the platforms social sharing feature.
Users also have the option to un-share information after it has been posted on Netflix or Facebook.
Netflix is rolling out the feature over the next week, if you don’t see the feature right away just wait a bit and look again. If you are using a Roku player or some other type of connected device you might want to reset that hardware to ensure all software is up to date with your equipment.
