March 24 Is World Shutdown Day

At first I thought it’s that day you have to powercycle your computer by actually shutting it down and turning it back on–instead of just putting it to hibernate or sleep–a habit I developed through years of working on computers. You see, for a guy with so much clutter work to take care of, I really appreciate not having to open all my apps and documents each time I turn on the computer.

But no, World Shutdown Day is supposed to be a no-computer day.

It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?

Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!

Shutdown your computer on this day and find out! Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?

Since it’s a Saturday, I would think most people who use computers at work won’t have any problems. But for avid bloggers and those whose work and business revolve around the Internet, like us, shutting down for an entire day would cause serious withdrawal symptoms. Still, if you’d like to give it a try, do head on to www.shutdownday.org and click the “I can” button. As of this writing, 47,791 people have pledged to shut down on the 24th, while 7,361 said they cannot (I’m one of them!).
