Major League Lawsuit Filed Against Twitter

It can’t be understated how important it is to protect your name – both personal and brand – on the Web.

Twitter is at the messy end of a lawsuit filed by St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. His claim states that someone registered his name on Twitter and made remarks that damaged his reputation and trademark rights.

For example, the alleged impostor stated…

“Lost 2 out of 3, but we made it out of Chicago without one drunk driving incident or dead pitcher.”

That’s a comment referencing two pitchers, who under La Russa’s stead, passed away under tragic circumstances.

There’s a double-barreled lesson here. 1) Always register your name and any variations on as many sites as possible. Even if it’s a tool you think you may have no use for, at the very least, you can help your search engine presence. 2) Do not pretend to be anyone you are not – ever. There’s nothing but trouble waiting in the wings if you do.
