Little Island, a distinctive park and leisure space designed by Heatherwick Studios and MNLA, floats above New York City’s Hudson River. The 2.4-acre park at Pier 55 envelops visitors in a network of verdant mini forests, undulating hills, and intricate pathways, akin to a floating leaf over the river.
Enriching the experience, the park is also home to an amphitheater and performance stage, held up by distinctive tulip-shaped columns. With breathtaking views of the city skyline, it provides an urban escape, perfectly marrying nature and architecture, and making it a must-visit destination.
The park’s design, supported by components of different heights and shapes, appears to float above the river. ‘Pots’ produced from precast concrete through advanced digital modelling created a unique, almost organic aesthetic. The structure’s rhythm and transparency are thanks to a staggering arrangement of these ‘pots’, offering panoramic views of the Hudson River and city skyline.
