Google’s Custom Search blog classified as spam, deleted, briefly taken over

As reported by the “Google Blogoscoped” blog, Google’s own Custom Search blog was mistakenly classified as a spam blog on Tuesday by Google’s own automated filters.

The blog resides on the Blogspot domain, and its spam classifier believed it was spam, sent an automated notification to the owners, which was ignored, so the blog was subsequently deleted.

After that, a quick acting “URL squatter”, going by the name of “Srikanth”, took over the name and posted a rather bizarre message:

“Google Custom Search, is the wonderful product from Google which many webmasters have been looking and dream for,” Srikanth wrote. “Also Google Custom Search is integrated with Ad-sense, which means make money while keeping users on your site for longer time with custom search engine…. Good Luck for all the Custom Search customers(??).”
