Google+ Publishes Page Building Guide For Politicians

Google Plus For Politics

With the 2012 election cycle quickly approaching the team at Google+ has posted a guide for politicians and candidates, a step-by-step set of instructions for creating the perfect politician page for interacting with voters and constituents.

According to Google the guide is meant to help candidates:

“Promote an issue(s), platform or cause across the web.”

In the guide Google shows off the pages of Mitt Romney, Sen. Bernie Sanders and others who have already taken advantage of the Google+ platform to spread their messages. Other politicians also using Google+ at this time including President Obama and Newt Gingrich.

As you would probably guess the guide offers basic suggestions such as:

“Since you need to establish a personal profile on Google+ when creating a Google+ Page, we recommend that you use and update only your Google+ Page, not your personal profile, to avoid fragmenting your audience when they search for you on Google+. If you have a staff managing your account, another way to do this is by having a staff member use their name to set up the profile page of the account.”

Google+ is also offering politicians account verification as they began to do for celebrities in August. Users visiting a politicians website will find a small gray check mark icon that appears next to a celebrities name on their Profile Page.
