Facebook Subscribe ButtonThe team at Facebook has announced plans to roll out a “Subscribe” button for websites, yet another attempt by the social network to fully emerge their product in the digital landscape.

The program was announced at Le Web in Paris on Wednesday and according toย Joanna Shields, vp and managing director for Facebook Europe, Middle East and Africa, the new plugin will allow site visitors to click on a button that will allow them to follow the news from a celebrity, journalist, public figure or any politician they choose on Facebook.

According to the launch report the program will only work for people who have already enabled Subscribe on Facebook.

News of the launch shouldn’t come as a surprise, Facebook began offering their subscribe features to some journalists and public figures in September.ย

At this time the Facebook “Like” button must be utilized to receive updates via an organizations Facebook Fan Page.

The exact date for a launch isn’t know as Facebook has only released the following statement:

โ€œWe will soon launch the Subscribe plugin, an extension of the Subscribe button, that publishers and other developers can add to their web sites to make it easy for people to connect to reporters and public figures in one click. We have no further details to share at this time.โ€โ€‹โ€‹

Would you be more willing to follow a specific reporter at a news agency more than the agency as a whole? I personally find that I enjoy reading authors who’s ideologies click more with mine and the subscribe button could be a great way to stay connected to those specific writers.
