Once again it looks like us iLovers are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to mobile blogging (at least on WordPress that is).
It looks like Blackberry fans will now have the ability to not only upload video to their WordPress Blogs while on the go, but insert audio pod casts as well.
We are happy to announce that WordPress for BlackBerry version 1.2 is now available. Depending on your region or country, you might not see the latest version in the BlackBerry App World, but on your device you should now already see the latest version 1.2 . […] So what’s new in version 1.2:
- Ability to show comprehensive site stats for WordPress.com sites and for self-hosted sites running the WP.com stats plugin
- Ability to add audio recordings to a post/page
- Ability to post media files that are not tied to post/page
(via WordPress for Blackberry)
The latest update should help WP Blackberry leap ahead of its WordPress Android sibling, who was blessed with video uploading capabilities as well as geo-tagging (features Blackberry fans have had for quite some time).
Bloggers using WP.com will have to subscribe to VideoPress, as well as upgrade their media space in order to enjoy these features from their respective Blackberry smartphones.
Self-hosting WP fans will probably need to install the PWJ Mime plugin if they want to podcast upon their blogs (note: I’ll confirm this with the WordPress team as I currently lack a Blackberry smartphone to test this out).
Baking WP Stats within the app was a smart move for WordPress, as it will help WordPress bloggers to analyze their site traffic on the go without having to log into a notebook or (worse) through the tiny Blackberry screen (which might extremely cumbersome).
Note: WordPress for Blackberry is only available if you are running OS 4.2.1 or higher, and (thus far) you can only use the app upon the Blackberry Curve, 8700, Pearl, Bold, Storm (both 1 and 2) as well as the Tour.
