Twitter iOS version 5.4 was released on Wednesday and as expected it did away with many popular third party video uploading services.
No longer available to Twitter iOS app users are Mobypicture, Vodpod and Posterous.
The Posterous removal shouldn’t come as a surprise to users as Twitter prepares to close the doors on the company it acquired in 2012.
Not all video services have been shuddered, Telly (formerly Twitvid) remains on the service, as does the popular platform option YFrog.
Twitter has been actively pushing its users away from third party video apps, although YouTube and Vimeo still remain as big players in the Tweet space.
Twitter started going after third party multimedia apps when they stopped allowing image uploads from yFrog, Twitpic, Mobypicture, Twitgoo, img.ly and Posterous.
The micro-blogging platform was rumored to be working on its own video hosting service at the end of 2012. In response to that rumor Twitter unveiled Vine, a system that is hardly on-par with YouTube, Vimeo and other similar services.
Twitter’s new app upgrade also provides a streamlined search results page that shows the most popular tweets first instead of newer Tweets. The new iOS update for Twitter also suggests hashtags and usernames as users are busily composing tweets.
