Taiwan eagerly awaits National Day design reveal

"National Day Design"

Taiwan anticipates with bated breath as its Legislative Speaker, Han Kuo-yu, readies himself to unveil the official aesthetic design for the forthcoming National Day on September 3. The entire nation is on edge with excitement, curiosity, and a tinge of apprehension about the theme of the day. Despite their eagerness, the public remains in the dark about many aspects of the event.

Some insiders indicate that Han seems thrilled about the opportunity to create a unique and memorable celebration. Among the conjecture and curiosity, a few lawmakers have voiced concerns about a potential retreat to design elements endorsed during the reign of the Kuomintang (KMT).

Nevertheless, Hung Mong-kai, KMT’s caucus secretary-general, has expressed his desire to focus on the symbolic representation of the Republic of China (ROC) during the celebrations.

His goal aligns with the broader call to clarify and distinguish the ROC’s emblems during this important event.

Even political adversaries like Wu Szu-yao, whip of the Democratic Progressive Party caucus, appreciates Han’s effort. She strongly advocates for the continued emphasis on Taiwan’s unique identity in the forthcoming celebration which traditionally observes “ROC in Taiwan”.

Wu also nods in agreement with the general consensus among the people of Taiwan about their national identity being depicted in the phrase “ROC in Taiwan”. This acknowledgement has further solidified the unity amongst Taiwanese citizens and underscores the uniqueness of their socio-political fabric.

The National Day celebration, also known as Double Ten Day, is an important memory marker of the Wuchang Uprising’s inception on October 10, 1911. This revolt ushered in a significant era, bringing down the Qing Dynasty and leaving an indelible print on China’s political map.
