Squarespace Quietly Launches New Price Plans
After increasing their war chest, Squarespace (a premium blogging service) has simplified their pricing plans by reducing the number from 5 plans (which included Basic, Pro, Advance, Business and Community) to 3 (Standard, Advance and Business).
Surprisingly there is no official announcement upon their blog, despite the increase in cost and features (the latter which might appeal to bloggers seeking “VIP like” hosting for their sites).
Previously the former plans (via Google cache) ranged from $8/month to $50/month and provided users with storage ranging from 1 GB of space to 5 GB’s of space (as well as 75 GB to 400 GB of bandwidth) respectively.
Now the new plans start out at $13/month (with 3 GB of space) while the most expensive plan is $40/month with unlimited bandwidth and hosting.
While the new price change does make Squarespace more expensive (at least on the low end), it will probably convince more users to use their own custom domain (a feature that was previously only available on the second tier pricing plan).
Although the prices are much more expensive than Say Media’s Typepad, Squarespace’s unlimited hosting/bandwidth might attract the attention of power bloggers (especially those nervous about the future of Movable Type).
