PostUp (who was formally known as TweetUp before changing their name) has announced that they have acquired Echofon by nannstudio.
Although nannstudio has yet to make an official statement upon their blog or Twitter account (@echofon), PostUp did send a press release confirming the deal.
PostUp, Inc., today announced its acquisition of Echofon, the suite of Twitter applications developed by naanstudio, and previously known as “TwitterFon” and “TwitterFox.” Widely regarded for its ease of use and simple, elegant design, Echofon is currently used by more than 3 million people internationally, across multiple platforms. PostUp has thus far declined to disclose how much money they paid to buy out Echofon and have some how managed to keep the acquisition price a secret from everyone (including TechCrunch).
PostUp’s Echofon acquisition compliments their previous purchase of Twidroid in 2010, which should help the company compete against third party rivals upon both platforms, as well as the official Twitter apps for iOS and Android.
Although Echofon was known mainly for its universal iOS app as well as its desktop app (Mac only), the company also built a premium iPhone app for Facebook (which was not surprisingly outdone by the official Facebook app).
With apps upon iOS and Android, it will be interesting to see if PostUp will consider purchasing other app companies upon other platforms (like Blackberry or Windows Phone 7) in order to strengthen their position across every mobile device.
