Pew admits: we stuffed up!

Fresh from declaring to the world that 6 million Americans had listened to podcasts, Pew has admitted that the figure may be inflated.

In an interview on NewsFactor, Pew research director Mary Madden states that she believes the numbers of people actually using the Internet to broadcast and/or download podcasts is smaller than the 6 million figure cited in Pew’s latest study.

Says Madden: “Our question to the survey respondents on this was very broad. We asked if they had ever downloaded a podcast or radio Internet program”. That’s right, not just a podcast but a “radio internet program”, despite writing clearly in the study that the 6 million figure pertained strictly to podcasting.
