Who would have thought a tiny tattoo could spark a Twitter brawl?
Miley Cyrusย tweeted a picture of her seventh tatoo with the words “All LOVE is equal” and drew flak from some people Twitter who disagree with her stand to support gay rights.
Her seventh Tattoo which is an equal sign is meant to symbolize her view on gay rights.
The “=” symbol that is universally accepted by mathematics for equality was first recorded by Welsh mathematician Robert Recorde in The Whetstone of Witte (1557). ย Recorde explains his design of the “Gemowe lines” (meaning twin lines, from the Latin gemini) was to eliminate the necessity of writing “equal to”.
In any case, the gay rights movement has had aย love affair with symbols throughout the yearsย and perhap Miley considered the less painful option among the many that could be found.
Miley responded to at least one follower who had cited a verse from the Bible, noting her objection.
@MileyCyrusLuverย where does it say in the bible to judge others? Oh right. It doesn’t. GOD is the only judge honey. “GOD is love”
@MileyCyrusLuver:ย “1 Corinthians 6:9-11 explains why I don’t support it. And omg I can’t believe you replied to me!!”
The tweets have sparked what could be a cyber-brawl and in the latest turn, @MileyCyrusLuver says he/she is getting death threats over his/her tweet:
@xSob7ย People are sending me death threats over my opinion.
Death threats on Twitter shouldn’t be brushed off and should be taken seriously. ย Perhaps among the first things that one should do is to cease all activity on Twitter and protect tweets. ย It would be a bad idea if one’s tweets are geo-tagged or if one has the habit of tweeting where they are or what they are doing at the moment.
In at least one case covered by Blog Herald, a teenager was sentenced to three monthsย for posting death threats on Facebook.
Apart from being sentenced to a correctional institution, Keeley Houghton was also given a restraining order banning her from contacting Emily in any way, already had 2 previous convictions for bullying Emily Moore. In 2005 she assaulted the victim on the way home and was subsequently expelled from school. Two years later, in 2007, she was convicted after she kicked the door at Emilyโs parents home in.
