First “Top 100” of British parenting blogs published by Talking Tots
Mummy blogging is taking off in a big way in the UK, with an estimated 175,000 new blogs expected to be launched this Mother’s Day (22nd March) and with 55% being written by women.
By way of encouragement for both the parents who blog, and those who want to discover them, Talking Tots has published its first “Tots100” index of the best parenting blogs in Britain.
With advice from Brendan Cooper, around 250 parenting-related blogs were chosen and then scored using the following criteria:
- Technorati Authority: number of blogs linking to this blog in the last six months
- Technorati Inlinks: number of inbound links, excluding self-referring hits
- Yahoo Inlinks: number of inbound links in last six months (excl self-referring hits)
- Google Blog Hits: number of posts/links/weblinks in Google
- Google Hits Recent: number of links from the last 30 days
- Readers: number of subscribers based on Feedburner and Google Reader
- HowSociable: the blogger’s visibility outside the blog, measuring activity on sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube
The Tots100 index is expected to be updated regularly. Currently the top ten reads as follows:
- Petite Anglaise
- Wife in the North
- Jo Beaufoix
- Alpha Mummy
- My Boyfriend is a Tw@t
- Crystal Jigsaw
- Babyccino
- A Modern Mother
- Single Parent Dad
- Notes from Inside my Head
“Being a Mum can be isolating sometimes, but blogging provides the perfect way to reach out to other parents going through similar experiences,” said Tracey Park, co-founder of Talking Tots. “For many parents, blogs provide a safe, supportive place where they can have a laugh, support each other, and share ideas about raising their families.”
“The Tots100 is a real mixed bag, but what the index does show is that Mummy bloggers are growing in influence and number,” she continued. “We hope the index makes it easier for parents to discover great blogs, and perhaps inspires even more Mums and Dads to start blogging themselves.”
