Denton, Dooce dominate the Bloggies

Uber-blogger Nick Denton’s Gawker Media and Heather Armstrong of Dooce have dominated the 5th Annual Weblog Awards announced at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas with 4 bloggies each.

Gawker’s LA Gossip Blog Defamer was the first winner off the block for Denton, picking up the Bloggie for Best Entertainment Blog, then later the Award for best new blog, followed by Gawker for best political blog and Gizmodo picked up the coveted Computers and Technology blog against Jason Calacanis’ Engadget.

Denton’s entries of Gawker and Wonkette in the Best Weblog category missed out to famed Group Blog Boing Boing, who also picked up the Group Weblog Award.

Heather Armstrong, perhaps mostly famously known as being the first blogger to be sacked for blogging, won the most awards for an individual blogger on the night, picking up 4 bloggies for Dooce, Best American Weblog, Best Tagline of a Weblog, Most Humourous Weblog and Best Writing of a Weblog.

Tom Coates of PlasticBag.org also scored with two wins, with Best British Weblog and Lifetime Achievement bloggies on the night.
