Costco plans members-only shopping concept nationwide

Costco Wholesale Inc. is planning a members-exclusive shopping concept initiative at all outlets, beginning in New Jersey before a nationwide rollout. The plan aims to offer a more exclusive shopping experience to its members, in an effort to increase member loyalty and attract more customers.

The New Jersey outlet will serve as the trial location for these new strategies and programs. This outlet was chosen due to its accurate representation of Costco’s broader market demographics. The success of this initiative will determine the modifications necessary for the nationwide rollout.

Changes to store entrance protocol are also expected as Costco introduces entrance scanners at all locations. Customers will need to scan their membership cards upon entry to ensure that only members gain access to their stores.

Implementing Costco’s nationwide exclusive shopping

This is anticipated to greatly reduce unauthorized entry and enhance overall operation efficiency.

Additional safety and health measures will be put into place in correlation with the new entrance process. These changes include; mandatory temperature checks, required hand sanitizing upon entry, pre-sanitized shopping carts, and a limit on the number of shoppers within the store at a time.

At checkout, members will have the option for self-checkout and are encouraged to use contactless payment methods. Members will also need their membership card scanned upon exit in order to record their departure.
