BBC launches Blog Network portal, centralizes blogging activity

The BBC has launched its blog network, effectively centralizing and promoting its fifty-or-so home-grown blogs.

The BBC embraced blogging, at least in its simplest form, several years ago but seems keen to push them into the limelight. A number of the BBC’s journalists, DJs, presenters, and other staff maintain blogs, usually to support live events and programmes.

Six Apart keenly announced that the BBC’s stable of blogs is powered by Movable Type, not that it will make much difference to the end user but it’s a nice piece of PR for SA.

It would be nice to think that the BBC’s openness to pushing its own blogging would see it linking out more to more independent sites and bloggers when it obviously gets inspiration for some of its features from the blogosphere.
