6 million blogs in China: report
by Duncan
August 10, 2005
A new report from the IHT on the state of the Chineses blogosphere suggests that the current number of Chinese blogs is 6 million, up from 5 million as of 3 weeks ago. The report also states that leading Chinese blog provider Bokee, formerly called BlogChina, expects to have 10 million blogs on their service by the end of the year.
Update: As you may notice from the comments, the Reuters article that’s been run widely around the planet is totally wrong. The 14.2 million Chinese blogs referred is the number of all blogs on Technorati, not just Chinese blogs. The original IHT story (in which the Reuters article is based) states there are 6 million Chinese blogs, which I’ve used in this report, and believe to be the accurate figure.
China now boasts a 14.2 million-strong “blogosphere,”

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong…. well at least your not wrong, the report is. Read the whole story, it states 14.2 million at the beginning then 6 million later on, the thing is, the 14.2 million was the IHT (original source of the report) confusing Technorati’s latest figures with the Chinese ones. Really stupid mistake. It also goes to my point (people still dont believe me) that there are a lot more blogs out there then Technorati tracks, because I can promise you that the 6 million Chinese blogs aren’t in the Technorati database.
At this stage the number of blogs in China can be anything between one and fifteen million. The incoherent Reuters’ article is not really helping.
