SonyBMG abandons demo tapes in favour of blogging

Music giant SonyBMG has announced that from today it will no longer be accepting music demos on physical media.

The humble demo tape/CD will is to be replaced by blogs.

Bands and artists pursuing a record deal, who want to pique the interest of executive, will instead need to start their own blog on one of the company’s web sites, where they can then blog about their music, upload photos and videos, and link up to other promising bands they like.

Ged Doherty, SonyBMG’s UK and Ireland Music Entertainment Chairman and Chief Executive, said that blogging is now clearly one of the major trends in music, media and entertainment, and that it made complete sense for the major labels to use the process in a creative way to encourage, discover, and communication with new artists.

The company appears to be using the Vox platform to host Columbiademos.co.uk and rcademos.co.uk.
