Wix vs Squarespace 2020 – Things You Must Know

Website builders simplify the process of putting websites together. This is invaluable for those who aren’t technically skilled enough to either build their website completely from scratch or with the help of a template compatible with a content management system (CMS). This approach requires you to take care of getting a hosting provider among many other things. Bloggers especially can benefit from using a website builder. Using a website builder means that they can focus on the task of blogging, instead of having to worry about the technical aspects of building and maintaining a website.

Wix and Squarespace are 2 of the top website builders out there. They have a feature set which makes setting up a website relatively easy for users while giving them the functionality that they need to thrive. If you’re a blogger and you’re wondering which one will do the job for you, stay tuned. We will compare the functionality of these 2 platforms across different criteria in an attempt to see which platform works best overall.

Wix vs. Squarespace: Which One is Better?

Here we will examine Wix and Squarespace based on a few different criteria. We’ll look at ease of use, customization capabilities, available apps, features, tools, blogging capabilities, quality of support, SEO capabilities, and available marketing tools.

Ease of Use

Both Wix and Squarespace are drag and drop website builders but there are some differences.

Wix Ease of Use

Wix is generally a little bit easier to use. It lets you drag and drop as you please. There is also Wix’s Artificial Design Intelligence tool that will create a website for you automatically after you provide the relevant details about your website.

Squarespace Ease of Use

With Squarespace, it takes a little more effort to drag elements into the positions that you want. Squarespace also has its own artificial intelligence tool. It isn’t difficult to use, but it does take a little longer to get used to.

Ease of Use Overview

Wix’s drag and drop editor is easier to use than Squarespace. In general, Squarespace just takes a little longer to get used to.

Customization Capabilities

Things like templates and design tools are necessary for making your website look amazing. Let’s take a look at each platform’s customization capabilities.

Wix Customization Capabilities

Wix provides hundreds of templates that are suitable for different industries such as modeling agencies and construction companies. There are many great looking templates but you should be aware that if you change templates, you will lose all of your content.

Squarespace Customization Capabilities

Squarespace doesn’t have as many designs available but they are more polished than Wix’s designs. One thing that Squarespace has over Wix for sure is that you can change templates without losing content.

Customization Capabilities Overview

Wix’s designs are nice but it’s clear that Squarespace’s designs had more effort put into them. They are well thought out and have a crispness to them that is unrivaled. In addition, you can swap Squarespace templates without losing all of your content. So in this regard, Squarespace comes out on top.

Apps, Features, and Tools

It’s one thing to have a great design, but what about the functionality of your website? While looks are important, having your website carry out its purpose effectively is critically important.

Wix Apps, Features, and Tools

Wix has a dedicated app market that has over 200 free and paid apps in total. This lets you choose from apps such as apps for forms and apps that let you manage events online. These apps are available on top of the built-in features which is a plus.

Squarespace Apps, Features, and Tools

Squarespace does come with a decent amount of features built into its editor but it doesn’t offer the extras that Squarespace does. This may or may not be a deal-breaker for many but it is something that needs to be considered.

Apps, Features, and Tools Overview

Both Squarespace and Wix have great functionality and features out of the box, but Wix offers a lot of high-quality apps in addition to the features that come standard with it which gives it the edge when it comes to apps, features, and tools.

Blogging

Blogging is a big deal these days. It is a way of sharing information with others and connecting with the community. It is an important method for communicating with your audience. Whether you are running a standalone blog or you’re doing it to supplement a business, both Squarespace and Wix can help you to set up a blog.

Wix Blogging

Wix’s blogging tools are relatively basic but they work. With Wix, you can add images, videos, and text, but you can’t add social media bars or lists. Wix is probably better if you just want to supplement your business with helpful information.

Squarespace Blogging

Squarespace’s blogging platform offers more features. You can add elements such as images, videos, and text. You also have access to categories and post scheduling. Coupled with Wix’s stellar designs, it is actually a great choice for blogging.

Blogging Overview

Overall, Squarespace is a better platform for blogging. It gives you more options and could even let you run a standalone blog without you facing too many issues. This is because of all of the blogging features that it offers. Wix is a little bit more basic and doesn’t have all of the features that you would need to run a standalone blog. With that being said, Wix is still suitable for a blog that is attached to a business.

Support

While website builders like Wix and Squarespace are easy to use, you will probably still need help with something at some point. Having a strong support infrastructure in place is necessary for a good experience.

Wix Support

Wix offers support via email, forums, social media, and over the phone. However, they don’t have a live chat available. There is also an ample knowledge base available that is filled with articles designed to help you out when you need it.

Squarespace Support

Squarespace has forums, a knowledge base, a live chat function, and an email response team. They don’t have phone support available, however. Luckily, they have a policy to respond to emails in one hour.

Support Overview

Overall Wix has better support. It helps that they offer support over the phone. Squarespace isn’t bad but Wix does offer slightly better service.

Final Thoughts

Overall Wix is a slightly better platform. However, Squarespace is definitely a better platform for blogging and it offers better-looking designs. Depending on what you’re doing, Wix could work out better for you. It has a lot of great features and a plentiful app market.  You will need to think about what you will be using your website for before making a final decision. Overall, these are both great platforms that will allow you to build the website you’ve always wanted.
