Yahoo to offer faster MovableType service to business users
SixApart has announced a deal with Yahoo! that will see Yahoo! will become the “preferred provider” of MovableType and will offer “commercial blogs based on Movable Type as part of its existing small business Web-site management service” for less than $12 per month in a package that includes a “unique Web address, blogging tools and business-class e-mail services with spam and virus protections”.
Interestingly Six Apart brags that it had optimized the underlying software in Movable Type “so that it responds twice as fast as the same software offered by Six Apart’s own Web site”. Whether this means TypePad as well was not clear in the reports.
What is interesting though is why would users sign up for TypePad at $14.95 for the premium service if they can get MT + domain name and more on Yahoo! for less (remembering that MT is still a lot of the underlying code for TypePad).
