The buzz words โtrustโ and โauthorityโ are being thrown around these days in almost any article or blog post you read that has to do with SEO. In the last year, Google has made many changes to its ranking algorithm that put more emphasis on how other sites view yours. Perfect example would be ProBlogger. Obviously that blog is seen as an authority in the blogging niche. Google knows this because it has a lot of one-way links from highly relevant sites, and because other bloggers mention it in their content (like I just did). These are not the only ways that Google determines if a site is an authority site, but you get the idea. Because of all of this, everyone who opens a new blog wants to become an authority in their niche. Obviously, the difficulty of doing that will depend on what niche you choose. Regardless of the niche, however, if you want to guarantee that your blog never becomes an authority blog, make sure you do the following things:
After Your 10th Blog Post, Start a Coaching Program
Listen, experience and knowledge are totally overโrated. In reality, all you need to do to become a โmentorโ or a โcoachโ in your niche is to say that you are! Donโt get all worried about refunds and people eviscerating you for not knowing your butt from your elbow, just read posts and articles by other experts in your niche, and regurgitate them in your own words! So what if your members donโt ever really learn anything new, or that most of them probably know more than you, whatโs important here is their recurring $49.95 membership fee.
Talk About Yourself in the Third Person
Nothing says humility like talking about yourself in the third person. When you do that, you make yourself appear as a sort of all-knowing God in your niche. So, for example, if your name is Jim and someone asks if they should use this method or that method, replying with something like โWell, Jim always uses different methods than everyone else, because Jim can do that, because Jim is that good!โ really makes you seem down to earth and approachable.
Fight Tooth and Nail with Anyone Who Bad-Mouthโs You
To hell with taking the high-road, people have some nerve coming out publicly against YOU! Setup a Google Alert for your name as the keyword, and this will give you a heads up when anyone mentions you on a blog or forum. Then, once you find the blasphemous jerk, argue with them for hours on end posting comeback after comeback. Be sure to use a lot of foul language; or at the very least, make death threats.
Substitute Regular Posting with Just Guest Posts
The point of doing this is to make sure that you never have to do any real work, and the quality and knowledge of your contentโs creators is all over the map from novice to genius. This ensures that your blog never does have a distinctive voice, and just remains a smorgasbord of content from a million different people.
Sell Contextual Paid Links
If possible, make sure all the links you whore out to whoever are from niches known to be plagued with criminals and scammers, such as payday loans, penis enlargement pills, online pharmacies, and forex trading. It would also help to make a separate post for each paid link that has absolutely nothing to do with your blogโs niche.
There you go, do those 5 things and you can rest assured that your blog never reaches the โauthorityโ level. God forbid!
